Why Locals Love Kedai Kopi Yu Yee
Kedai Kopi Yu Yee is a charming coffee shop located in the heart of Asia City, Kota Kinabalu, that brings a comforting slice of Sarawakian cuisine to Sabah. Specializing in authentic Sarawak dishes, this humble kopitiam excels with its standout offerings like Sarawak Kolo Mee and Sarawak Laksa, dishes that resonate deeply with locals and visitors who crave a genuine taste of East Malaysia.
Step inside and you'll immediately sense the warm, no-frills dining atmosphere typical of a classic kopitiam, where the focus is all about honest, flavorful food served with care. The star of the menu — the Sarawak Kolo Mee — is a true delight. Reviews describe it as “authentic” and “just like home,” with delicate, springy noodles tossed in a flavorful sauce, perfectly complemented by succulent slices of char siu and spring onions. The accompanying wonton in the kolo mee set adds a silky texture and satisfying bite, making each spoonful a comforting homage to Sarawak’s beloved breakfast fare.
The Sarawak Laksa is another must-try, celebrated by regulars for its richly spiced broth that balances savory, sour, and creamy notes with shredded chicken, thin egg omelette strips, and thin rice vermicelli. One happy customer even rated it superior to a famed local laksa stall, underscoring the passion and skill behind every bowl served here.
While the food delights your palate, the drink menu is also noteworthy. Though some might find the hot lemon tea a bit pricier at RM3, it is lovingly prepared by a dedicated aunty who has been praised for crafting “hands down the best beverages in the world.” The combination of friendly service, efficient ordering (including QR code payment options), and reasonable pricing makes this spot ideal for casual breakfast or lunch outings.
Kedai Kopi Yu Yee invites you to indulge in dishes that not only satisfy hunger but also evoke a strong sense of nostalgia and cultural connection. For those in Kota Kinabalu longing for an authentic Sarawakian meal experience, this coffee shop is a heartfelt recommendation that promises genuine flavors, warm service, and a welcoming atmosphere that feels like a home away from home.

Your typical kopitiam. The sarawak kolo mee is nice. The price is reasonable for the kolo mee set. But the price of the beverage is abit high, RM3 for a glass of hot lemon tea.

Taste like authentic Sarawak kolo mee. If you're a Sarawakian at Sabah and you miss eating kolo mee, just go here. The food is delicious and tastes just like home.

Sarawak or Kuching laksa is my favourite noodle dish of all time because it is the comfort food that I grew up on here in Kota Kinabalu. This stall serves a very respectable version and in my opinion, even better than the famous laksa at Yee Fung coffee shop at Gaya Street. My lunch today was a large bowl (RM 9) consisting of thin rice vermicelli, shredded chicken, thin beaten egg omelette strips, sliced fish cake, boiled shrimps, tofu puffs, bean sprouts, and finished off with a squeeze of fresh lime and topping of sambal. The laksa gravy has a perfect blend of spiciness, aromatic herbs and subtle tanginess with the light creamy taste of coconut milk.

Love this place! The Sarawak kolo mee and Sarawak laksa are both incredibly delicious - full of authentic flavour and cooked to perfection. The prices are super affordable, especially for the quality you get. The service is friendly and fast, and you can really feel the care they put into everything. Special shoutout to the Aunty who makes the drinks - hands down the best beverages in the world! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a taste of Sarawak comfort food done right. Will definitely be coming back !
